KALONZO AND RAILA

The power struggle between the Vice-President and Prime Minister came to the fore on Wednesday at an ODM Kenya recruitment drive in Nairobi.
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka maintained he was the leader of Government Business in Parliament, arguing that his responsibilities had not been diminished by the introduction of the Prime Minister’s Question Time.
He said he was the President’s representative in the House and the conflict was “just a creation of the press.”Previously, the VP’s mandate was to defend the Government, but with the new dispensation, it is the PM who fields all questions as the Cabinet supervisor.
Mr Musyoka, however, insisted he still had the same clout.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Mr Musyoka have been engaged in a power tussle, initially over protocol.
Recently, the two differed over the ECK, with Mr Musyoka calling for complete reforms while Mr Odinga demanded the dismissal of the commissioners.
