THE WAR IN CONGO

Renegate general Laurent Nkunda arrives to speak with the International Press in the mountains of North Kivu, on November 10, 2008. The leader of a rebel movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo insisted that his forces were respecting a ceasefire they unilaterally declared on October 29, despite recent skirmishes. ”In the last few days, we have always been attacked by the government coalition, we are defending ourselves, but we maintain that the ceasefire must continue,” rebel leader Laurent Nkunda told.
