INTERNATIONAL Jamaican born dancehall artiste Windel Beneto Edwards popularly known as ‘Gyptian,’ has arrived in Dar es Salaam and called on college students and music lovers to turn up in large numbers for the Str8Muzik Festival Inter-College Special 2010 bash.

The concert sponsored by Tanzania Cigarette Company (TCC) through its Sweet Menthol (SM) brand, is expected to take place on Friday at the Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam.

Gyptian jetted in the country on Wednesday night and was received at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam by SM Brand Assistant Manager Isamba Kasaka.

The artiste said he was pleased to tour Tanzania and especially perform at the Str8Muzik Festival Inter-College Special 2010 concert, which brings together college students from various universities and higher learning institutions with the aim of exchanging ideas and having fun.

“Fans should turn up in thousands because there are many artistes coming up and we are all entertainers who have come to this beautiful country to entertain our fans,” said Gyptian, who is doing well in dancehall music.

Gyptian said this was his first time in Tanzania but has been in Africa before, where he performed in Kenya and Senegal.

He is expected to rock his fans with top charting songs such as ‘Serious Times’ which won him an award in 2005, ‘Is There a Place’, ‘Beautiful Lady’, ‘Mama’ and ‘Don’t Cry.’

Gyptian is also expected to perform one of his latest songs which he has done a collabo with fast raising American female rapper Nicky Minaj.

Other international artistes expected today for the Str8Muzik Festival Inter-College Special 2010 are Elephant Man, Mims and T-Pain.

The Dar es Salaam Festival was preceded by shows in Morogoro on November 13 and Dodoma last Saturday, which attracted hundreds of students and music fans as a number of local artistes performed.
